Free Batch File Renaming or Prefix application, for Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8.1, 10

Batch renaming program for windows, free!

Batch rename files in a directory you specify in Windows, for free!

I programmed this little application. Just specify the directory path location of interest and this application will allow you to search and replace text in all file names in that folder at the same time. It only works in the first level, not sub folders. The program only took me about 5 minutes to write many years ago when I was first learning VB, so it doesn’t handle errors or empty folders, it only renames files and will return an error if there are no files in the folder, and the browse button doesn’t work either. If this app gets more intest I may debug it properly and fix the browse button.  But it gets the job done and quickly! The program is stand alone, does not require installation. Just double click it and it runs. Just copy and paste in the folder path, enter the text to find and replace, click the button and boom! Fast and simple. It can rename file extensions too, it considers all of the text and period and file extension as one series of characters to search and replace in.  If you want you can even delete the file extensions all together.  It also adds prefixes to files if you choose. I’ve tested it and it works in Windows XP and Windows 7 and I suspect it should work in lots of other versions of windows as well such as Windows 8. It was made using Visual Studio 6.

I’m not including any disclaimers and not offering any support, feel free to use it as you wish. I find that it’s really handy for people that do a lot of batch processing work with long lists of files.

  1. “Krojamsoft BatchRename” Tool is a powerful tool, that allows you to quickly rename all the files in a specified directory. You can remove spaces, replace spaces with underscore, uppercase/lowercase filename, add a prefix/suffix, remove/replace strings and also catalog files by adding an incremental number to the file name.
